The overall appearance of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack is hard to categorize. In some ways, it checks all the boxes of a crossover and a wagon. Yet the design, based on the SportWagen, speaks to a higher class.

The new VW Golf Alltrack is the kind of ride that appeals to all drivers. Read our overview to see why.

Highlights of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack

Performance

With a ground clearance of 6.9” and standard all-wheel drive (AWD), the Golf Alltrack can clear rocky roads and rough terrain reliably. The 4MOTION® AWD system favors the front wheels in most conditions but can throw half the torque to the rear wheels for a more balanced control when needed.

There is also an off-road mode to fully engage the AWD, and the dashboard’s center display will show altitude, provide compass direction, and project steering wheel angle. This function also engages hill climb and descent control, so you’ll always have a handle on the road.

A welcome change in the 2019 Golf Alltrack, drivers will now have the choice between manual and automatic transmission. Both will come standard with a 168-horsepower turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine that feels surprisingly forceful.

Safety

The base trim, the Golf Alltrack S, comes with a wealth of standard and available safety features, including Automated Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Detection, Blind-Spot Monitoring, Forward-Collision Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

One safety feature that is mandatory across all Volkswagen vehicles is the Automatic Pose-Collision Braking System, which will automatically engage the brakes in the case of an accident. This is to ensure that there isn’t a second accident, or that the original one doesn’t become worse.

Interior

The Alltrack’s comfortable cabin rivals other crossovers in elegance. The materials are of high quality, including leatherette seating and leather-wrapped wheel and shifter.

Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and a 6.5” touchscreen infotainment center all come standard in the Golf Alltrack, with high-quality trims and finishes to complement the rest of the cabin.

While those features may seem standard in a lot of vehicles today, there are a few additions to the Golf Alltrack that set it apart. Available heated side mirrors, heated windshield nozzles, and LED ambient cabin lighting are just a few.
