The Golf GTI wears its performance on its sleeve. Front and rear LED lights tie a bow on a design that features the trademark red line fronting the fascia and into the headlamps. Red GTI-badged brake calipers peek out from behind the wheels. 

Interior

The interior of the Golf GTI is cozy while not being cramped. A generous 22.8 cu. ft. of space can be found behind the front seats, and that area expands to 52.7 cu. ft. with the seats folded flat. And it wouldn’t be a Golf without the trademark plaid seating scheme. Notable options include dual-zone automatic climate control and 12-way leather seats. 

Performance

Under the hood is where you really see the difference between the Golf GTI and its Golf cousin. Volkswagen upped the ante on this hot hatch to 228 horsepower for the 2019 model year, which pairs nicely with the 258 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard, but a new 7-speed automatic option was also introduced for the 2019 edition. 

Safety 

A number of driver-assistance technologies can be found in the Golf GTI, including autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic hill hold, stability/traction control, and post-collision braking. 

Moreover, many of the advanced safety features have trickled their way down into the base model for 2019 and the Golf GTI earned IIHS “Top Safety Pick” status.

Technology

Both Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ come standard on all 2019 trims. They’re integrated into a multimedia system controlled with a touchscreen display featuring some voice-controlled options as well.
